DEEP-CRYO TREATMENT

Deep-cryo treatment (DCT) is a process where steels are cooled to less than -300°F. DCT is beneficial for a wide range of industrial tooling applications. Machining tools, and press tools benefit from an enhancement of tool life. As a result, there is a significant cost savings by performing DCT. These benefits remain even after regrinding or re-sharpening of tools. Metalex is able to provide a complete service starting from the hardening, through DCT and tempering, coupled with an extremely high-quality service.

Tool Steels

Increases in hardness, wear resistance, tensile strength, impact toughness, low brittleness, low residual stress, higher thermal stability make DCT very impactful for tool steels.

Stainless Steels

DCT is also beneficial for stainless steels: 300 and 400series, 17-4, 17-7 etc. Improvements in microstructure drastically improve stainless steels wear resistance.

Plastic Molds

DCT can dramatically improve the life of plastic molds. DCT also improves the ability to turn and polish the molds. Extruder screws and barrels also benefit from DCT.

Blades

DCT has a profound impact on blade life. Less maintenance, sharpening and downtime. This applies to pocket knives, pelletizer blades. Blades for cutting paper stone, wood, copper, stainless steel and many others.
